At age 5, guitarist/composer Brad Shepik's favorite record was "Abbey Road." After attending Cornish College of the Arts, in 1990 he moved to NY and joined Paul Motian’s Electric Be Bop Band, Dave Douglas’ Tiny Bell Trio, and Matt Darriau’s Paradox Trio. In ‘97 he released his first record, “The Loan,” which received critical acclaim for its marriage of world and jazz. His follow-up, “The Well” received 4 stars in Downbeat.
Shepik returned to the trio format in '01 with “Short Trip” earning praise from Jazztimes for its “unassumingly beautiful, harmonically deep tunes.” NPR called the Trio’s second release, "Drip," “the jazz guitar record you’ve been missing forever.”
Brad’s current group is the Brad Shepik Trio with organist Gary Versace and percussionist Tom Rainey. Their new release, “Places You Go,” earned 4 stars from Downbeat. Timeout Chicago called the record “his best work yet.”
Brad teaches at New England Conservatory and the School For Improvised Music.
