Tree Lawn Artists is happy to announce the release of By Request: The Best of Karrin Allyson. The album journeys through Allyson's career, starting from her 1993 release I Didn't Know About You, to 2007's Grammy Nominated Imagina: Songs of Brasil. Released under Concord Jazz, By Request: The Best of Karrin Allyson celebrates a 15-year, eleven album history with the label. The three time Grammy nominated artist co-produced the eleven-track album, which features songs requested by fans at live performances over the years. The "best of" album displays Allyson's career diversity with styles ranging from blues, jazz, roots music, and the Great American songbook. Christian McBride releases Kind of Brown

Tree Lawn Artists would like to congratulate CHRISTIAN MCBRIDE on his new release Kind of Brown. This CD, the title of which is a play on the iconic Kind of Blue album title, a nod to McBride's mentor Ray Brown, and a tribute to the omnipresent influence of James Brown, features McBride's new quintet Inside Straight, comprised of pianist Eric Reed, alto saxophonist Steve Wilson, drummer Carl Allen, and vibraphonist Warren Wolf, McBride's former student. The self-produced album, released by Mack Avenue records, blends hard swing to gospel and blues grooves. The set delivers top-notch improvisations and memorable melodies on ten selections, including two tribute tracks - one to the late trumpeter Freddie Hubbard and a cover of "Theme for Kareem" by pianist James Williams.

Tree Lawn Artists' Frank Catalano, the brilliant tenor saxophonist, is appearing with pop superstar Seal on this Friday's edition of the Oprah Winfrey show broadcast nationwide from Frank's hometown of Chicago. This collaboration is just another example of Frank being chosen by the world's most prominent artists to join musical forces. Frank has previously contibuted his playing to the music of Tony Bennett, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Beyoncé, among others. Check local listings for the station and exact broadcast time. Look out for Frank on tour with his own band throughout 2009.

Tree Lawn Artists is happy to announce the release of two albums today:

After over a year of touring as a duo, playing the 6-string banjo with a Brazilian-based percussionist, JESSE HARRIS decided to make that surprisingly full and efficient instrumentation the foundation of his new album Watching The Sky. Expanding upon the rhythmic direction of his previous release, Feel, this new recording is centered around the backbone percussion of Mauro Refosco (David Byrne, Bebel Gilberto, Forro In The Dark) who also plays vibes, marimba, and keyboards; and augmented by the versatile bass and guitar playing of his old pal from The Ferdinandos, Tony Scherr (Bill Frisell, Willie Nelson, Jenny Scheinman).

TIERNEY SUTTON, a leading figure in vocal jazz for nearly a decade, seeks the path to the true self in her new recording, Desire. This philosophical and spiritual approach to cutting a jazz record is not as new for the Tierney Sutton Band as it may seem. Sutton and her fellow musicians - pianist Christian Jacob, bassists Trey Henry and Kevin Axt, and drummer Ray Brinker - have been interpreting various standards from this perspective for the fifteen years that they've been together. Tierney maintains that the obsession with fame and material things - a phenomenon that has been accelerated and amplified in this media-centric new century - is wasted energy. Worse yet, it comes with a dark aspect that can infect the soul.

Christian McBride's "The Movement Revisited" featured on NPR

NPR.org, January 18, 2009 - CHRISTIAN McBRIDE is best known as one of the most sought-after contemporary jazz and pop bass players. But he's also a serious composer.

His hour-long work "The Movement Revisited" melds spoken texts from four leading figures of the civil-rights movement - Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali and Martin Luther King Jr. - with a jazz band and a gospel choir.

McBride says it was challenging to find just the right spoken passages to go with the music, particularly with King.

"Every speech the man wrote was a masterpiece, so we're talking about a good 13 years of speeches and letters and different sorts of texts to chose from," McBride says. "You really can't go wrong, you know. If you find a book of Martin Luther King Jr. quotes, close your eyes and put your finger on the page; you'll come up with a great quote."

As he put together the work, there was one text he knew he absolutely needed to include.

"Obviously, you have to pick 'I Have a Dream,' which is probably one of the greatest speeches in history," McBride says. "So that was sort of a no-brainer."

To celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, NPR Music presents the last section of Christian McBride's "The Movement Revisited," dedicated to King. To hear a live performance of the work, go to:

Tree Lawn Artists congratulates ELIANE ELIAS on the US release of Bossa Nova Stories on Blue Note Records!!

Bossa Nova Stories was released in Europe/Japan during 2008, and debuted at #1 on the French Charts and remained #1 for three consecutive weeks. It's was also the #1 Best Selling Jazz Vocal Album in Japan, May-June 2008 (Swing Journal).

Jesse Harris rose to prominence when pop-jazz singer Norah Jones made her debut with his song "Don't Know Why," and the world has been turned on to his compositions ever since. Tree Lawn welcomes Christian Scott and Erin Bode

Tree Lawn is proud to welcome Grammy-nominated trumpeter CHRISTIAN SCOTT to our roster for worldwide bookings (with the exception of Europe). At age 25, Christian is already a 10-plus year veteran of the music scene, having emerged under the tutelage of his uncle Donald Harrison, the masterful New Orleans saxophonist. His two Concord releases chart the progress of this innovator who picks up where Miles Davis left off 20 years ago in embracing all music in his artistic vision, as long as it is hip.

We are also thrilled to welcome back to The Lawn vocalist ERIN BODE and the Erin Bode Group. The band's July release, The Little Garden, further establishes her voice and that of her quartet as unique pop innovators.
